It is not every day you get to shoot your namesake. The second country we traveled to with Fair Trade USA was the Philippines to look at the world of coconut production. We were treated to some great local hospitality, Ronald from Fair Trade and Raul who leads the Fair Trade program at Peter Paul. Peter Paul is one of the larger coconut processors in the Philippines they are probably responsible for 90% of the coconut water and oil you see at your local market. They have done a great job of prioritizing Organic and Fair Trade whenever possible.
We were also introduced to a couple local coconut farmers as well as taken to a local school on the back of a Jeepie to see the school feeding program, that the Fair Trade Fund implemented, first hand. This was the highlight of the trip. Everyone we met along the way were so generous and welcomed us into their homes and schools.
Farwell Philippines and thank you for all the coconuts!
